We are more technologically advanced today than at any other time in history. Tasks that previously took hours or days to complete are now reduced to a single keystroke. Yesterday’s cumbersome phones and super computers can now be slipped into a shirt pocket.
While the most highly advanced developments continue to take place in the technology sector, the field of healthcare is doing its best to keep up with the dizzying pace of today’s digital world. Video fluoroscopy, full body scans, and paperless offices are the norm today. Specific to chiropractic, for better or worse, are digital imaging, computerized adjusting instruments, and tricked-out adjusting tables.
While I am a self confessed “gadget guy”, I still believe that the essence of healthcare can be boiled down to the simplest of factors. That’s why my treatments continue to remain relatively low-tech. This is partly due to my faith in the healing power of the human body that we all possess inside of us; I move the bone, the body does the healing. The other reason for my low-tech approach to care is because I feel in too many cases doctors tend to utilize today’s technology as virtual smoke and mirrors at the expense of the actual care. All too often healthcare has become impersonal as we move toward a more digitized world.
A large part of quality care comes down to a single irreplaceable word: relationships. Heartfelt, caring, meaningful relationships. A doctor that cares enough about the patients he treats won’t let anything stand in the way of his mission. A patient who has unwavering faith and trust in her doctor accentuates her healing and response to care.
In my career as a solo practitioner I have many things to be proud of and thankful for, but what I’m most thankful for is that there has been nothing solo about it. The relationships I have developed with all of you have help to shape me both as a doctor and a person, and I am truly grateful to call each and every one of you my patient.
I want to wish all of you a heartfelt THANK YOU for your trust and faith in us and in the healing power of chiropractic. Without you, we wouldn’t be here. Thank you for letting us give back to you in some small way.
In Health,
Dr. Tsai
