Antibacterial this. Antimicrobial that. A vaccine for everything under the sun. It seems that our whole world is triple-washed, sterilized, shrink-wrapped, and quarantined into nice little compartments.
Despite what you may have been led to believe, you still do have an immune system inside your body. And it is amazing! How about instead of trying to circumvent it, we actually let it do its work.
Get outside (egads!) and put your hands in the…are your ready for it?..DIRT!
That’s right, get your hands dirty. Expose your immune system to new bacteria and microbes. Give it a workout and allow it to grow stronger.
Studies show that the huge proliferation of antibacterial soaps, hand sanitizers, antibiotics, and the like are contributing to the creation of antibiotic and antibacterial resistant microbes called super-bugs. It’s ironic that the harder we fight against germs, the smarter they get. Nature always wins.
It’s time to call a truce and learn to co-exist again with our microscopic little friends. Act like a kid again. Go roll in the yard. Dig in the dirt. Make some mud pies.
And when you’re all done outside, live dangerously and wash your hands with plain old soap and water.
Your immune system will thank you for it.
